Luggage

  • Big traveling bag or backpack

  • 1 comfortable and robust backpack for everyday use

  • Fabric bag for dirty laundry


Documents/cash

  • Passport, at least valid until after 6 months from the date of returning

  • Valid visa for the Russian federation

  • Insurance card, REGA card

  • Airline ticket and flight schedule

  • Little amount of cash in US-dollar or EURO (notes)

  • Valid credit- and/or debit card (MasterCard, Visa, Maestro, EC; unlock the card via your bank for Russia!)


Drinking and food

  • Thermos/water bottle (ca. 1lt)

  • Snacks, if necessary

  • Granola/chocolate bar, if necessary


Clothing

  • Long trousers (jeans and casual trousers)

  • Light shorts

  • Thermal underwear, if necessary

  • Underwear and socks

  • Long-sleeved t-shirt/shirt

  • Short-sleeved t-shirt/shirt

  • A warm and a light pullover

  • Fleece or softshell jacket

  • Bathing suit and bath towel

  • A cap or sunhat, if possible with mosquito net

  • Pyjamas

  • Robust, wore in trekking shoes

  • House shoes (recommended for inside the truck and housing in Irkutsk)

  • If necessary, personal medicaments (please regard the import regulations!)

Photo equipment/electronics

  • Photo/video camera with different lenses

  • Tripod, if necessary

  • Spare batteries (batteries are very expensive in Russia) including charging cable

  • Enough memory cards/films (also very expensive in Russia)

  • Mobile device, music player, e-book, laptop, and others, including charging cable (with USB-input) and protection case

  • Binoculars, if you want
